Paintballs also known as paint are spherical gelatin capsules containing primarily polyethylene glycol that is used to play competitive shooting sport.
These paintballs are stored in a paintball marker powered by carbon dioxide or nitrogen. When fired these balls usually break once hit the target.
It came to mind a few weeks ago that a lot of people across the world are using their paintball guns to shoot birds, rabbits, squirrels, etc.
With that being said, in this article, I’ll answer one of the most asked questions “can a paintball gun kill a rat, bird, cat, squirrel or rabbit?”

Can a Paintball Gun Kill a Rat, Bird, Cat, Squirrel or Rabbit
The short answer is yes! If one of these animals is being struck by a paintball especially at close range it can eventually kill them or if not it may cause internal injuries that might cause the animal to suffer from unnecessary pain. This is especially true if you are using one of the most powerful paintball guns on the market.
Can Paintball Gun Kill a Rat?
If a small rat is being struck by a paintball, it may be killed immediately because of how small the rat is or if the paintball hit directly to their head. If the rat is not killed right away, it may cause serious damage or internal injuries. The rat will then slowly die of dehydration and starvation. You also need to hit in the right spot to kill it with one shot.
Can Paintball Gun Kill a Bird?
Generally, shooting a bird with paintballs may not kill it right on the spot. It might only cause the bird to have fractured wings, legs or internal injuries. However, if you shoot a bird that’s small in size or if you target on the sensitive areas of the bird’s head, then there is a greater chance of you killing it on spot.
Can Paintball Gun Kill a Squirrel?
Just like birds, squirrels are very delicate creatures and hitting it with a paintball can lead to multiple fractures in the squirrel’s body. While squirrels are thin-skinned, they seem to take a lot of abuse. This is why if you shoot a squirrel it might die right away, but chances are they can die of dehydration or starvation.
Can Paintball Gun Kill a Cat?
Usually, a cat is smaller than your average dog or bear. But there is no possibility of it being killed even if it is being shot by a paintball gun with powerful high fps. Cat has thick skin so shooting it with a paintball wound only causes injury especially if being hit in the eye which could lead to blindness. This is why you should never try hitting your cat with paintballs.
Can Paintball Gun Kill a Rabbit?
Paintball guns won’t kill a rabbit. It might be able to stun it for a while but that’s probably it. But if you hit the rabbit directly in the eyes it can cause serious bleeding and pain to the rabbit. For this reason, I don’t recommend using a paintball gun on rabbits.

We don’t recommend using your paintball gun to kill or cause any kind of harm to animals. A paintball gun can cause serious injuries, just say you get lucky and stop the animal heart, most of the time you will only cause internal injuries like bleeding that will kill it over time, but will also cause unnecessary pain and suffering for the animal.
